Happy Fall to Meantime Friends old and new! A lot has happened since our last post, and we are so thankful to be back on campus serving coffee in our cafe again! This year we have made many exciting changes to the our operations.

We have brought back our mug club and our bring your own mug programs, customers who bring their own mug now get a 5% discount to their orders and there is a monthly discount for those who bring their Meantime Mug. We have also introduced a circularity program, where you can donate a mug for a 5% discount, which will then be washed and placed on our mug shelf for anyone to use and return. We are hoping this program will make bringing a mug more convenient and in the case of our designed mugs, more fun too!

Meantime is also proud to announce that alternative milks are now free in lattes! This change is part of a larger goal to make environmentally friendly options more economically accessible while encouraging customers to order more resource efficient products. Alternative milks such as oat milk, almond milk, soy milk, and coconut milk use less land and water than dairy milk and as a result have a smaller impact on the environment. We hope that with free alternative milks for lattes, each of us feel a little more comfortable mixing it up and ordering an oat milk latte.

This year, we are also starting to host popups of student businesses and artists in our cafe every Friday. As a student founded venture, we are run for students by students and one of our guiding principles is to offer professional opportunities for Tar Heels. If you are a student with work you want to sell, reach out—we would love to showcase your talent!

We have also funded 1 Bridge Year Fellow this fall, which we are especially proud of coming out of a financially difficult year. We feel so honored to be able to partner with the Campus Y to send students abroad to take part in a year of international service and look forward to hearing about the amazing experiences of this year’s fellow.

Looking to the future we are excited to start hosting events throughout the year for the tar heel community and to offer more specialty drinks and menus. We also are also offering catering to events across campus. If you are throwing an event you think would benefit from having our coffee brewed with love, then let us know. You can place catering orders by emailing catering@meantimecoffee.com or by reaching out to marketing@meantimecoffee.com for partnership and event inquiries.

Lastly we hope you are having a restful start to your year. We know that this year has been hard, and we want each of you to know that at Meantime we value and love every person that walks through our doors. Please let us now if there is anything we can do at Meantime Coffee Company to make your coffee experience better. We love hearing from our community, whether is constructive feedback (we are working on our lids we promise!) or a story of when Meantime Coffee brought joy to your day. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Best,

Meantime :)

From a Bridge Year Fellow: On Borders

My head pops out of a 1920s Greco-Turkish War military bunker atop a cliff side on the Greek island of Lesbos. It’s 35 degrees and the wind off the waves of the Aegean in front of me chills to the bone. Armed with a thermal imaging scope I scan the water. The mountains of Turkey tower just above the horizon. I see a coast guard ship, a freighter, a ferry, but not what I’m looking for. No dinghies tonight. Not yet.
